Franklin Recreation Meeting January 29, 2018
Participants: Bridget Thompson, Stephanie Ho, Stacy Godin, Bridgette Favreau, Dawn Fournier, Marilyn Hackett
Bridget called the meeting to order at 7:16 p.m..
There were footprints on the tables in the cafeteria after the weekend. An email from Franklin Recreation to basketball coaches will be written. Coaches will be asked to forward the email to their teams.
Rachel Dumeny would like to start a girls on the run group in Franklin. Discussion about the program and possible additional coaches.
Bridget is interested in starting a summer running group.
Discussion about a second paint and sip, this time with a Barn Quilt and wine.
Approve Meeting Minutes
Bridget motioned to approve the meeting minutes from January 15. Stacy seconded. The motion passed.
A warrant to pay Jon Young $640 for the paint and sip was signed. The Treasurer reported that the budget was finalized for the Town Report. Bridget motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Stacy seconded. The motion passed.
Recreation Director’s Report
The Recreation Director had nothing new to report.
Action Item Review
The action items were reviewed
Discussion about basketball pictures, referees and implementing a training program for older kids to referee lower level games.
Bridgette spoke about the Northwest Little League (NWLL) Board Meeting last week. Registration for all three towns will run until Feb 23. A $10 late fee will be assessed for registrations received after February 23. The T-ball registration runs for longer since that season starts later. NWLL will have a mandatory coaches meeting, offer first aid training for coaches and hold league wide evaluations. Discussion on working with all the NWLL Franklin Representatives to ensure a smoothly running season.
Approve 2018 Registration Form
Bridgette has updated the Little League registration form. The form was reviewed and approved. The form sent home will not include a code of conduct as in years past because NWLL is working on a uniform code of conduct for all towns. The form was approved and will be sent home through school this week.
Vote on 2018 Registration Fees
Bridgette proposed that Little League fees for the town of Franklin be set at $40 per player with a $90 family maximum for the 2018 season. Bridget made a motion to approve the proposed registration fees. Stacy seconded. The motion passed.
Discussion about equipment we need to ask the school to borrow.
Marilyn will be setting up a ski/snowshoe trail on Thursday. She will pick up the Library’s snowshoes and asked that Franklin Recreation provide a sign out sheet for skis and snowshoes. She mentioned that there is a hill behind the Town garage that would be great for sledding and suggested that we look into using that area for outdoor activities at the carnival next year.
Jon Godin has done some research and determined that a 40’x80’ skating rink would cost approximately $1000. He and his father are working on building an outdoor zamboni.
Discussion of what to do to set up for the carnival and what supplies are still needed. Door prize and silent auction items were listed. There have not been many people volunteer to help. A call for volunteers will be posted on Facebook.
The next Franklin Recreation meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. on February 12, 2018 at the Franklin Central School.
