Franklin Recreation Meeting January 15, 2018

Bridget called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m..



Public Comment

Bridget spoke about a meeting she attended. Recreation Departments in Franklin County were invited. The group facilitating the meeting would like to publish a central calendar of events. Franklin Recreation has been asked to take inventory of groups within Franklin. More information will be provided at subsequent meetings.


The Wagner family is interested in helping to build a Gaga Ball Pit in Franklin. Gaga Ball is played in a hexagon or octagon shaped arena and needs very little equipment. There are kits that make construction simple. Annie is looking for grants to fund this, specifically through NMC or RiseVT to start.


Discussion about including cancellation policies on events.


If Franklin were to have an ice rink, Jon Godin would be willing to help with upkeep.



Winter Carnival

Discussion about the Winter Carnival was moved up due to scheduling needs.


It has beenconfirmed that the Franklin Central School can be used for the Winter Carnival from 2-7pm on February 3. The schedule of events was outlined pending confirmation from a few individuals needed to run activities. Once confirmation has been received, a flyer will be made and distributed. A duct tape derby, stargazing and a chili cook-off will be added to this yearís schedule of events. Volunteers to make bread, rolls and cookies for the dinner are needed.Youthful Energy will attend to share about oils and provide wellness sessions. Plenty of indoor activities are planned in case the weather does not cooperate. Several local businesses are providing items for a silent auction or door prizes. Discussion of what to offer as door prizes and what to offer as silent auction items. There will be donation boxes at registration and the chili cook-off.



Approve Meeting Minutes

Bridget motioned to approve the meeting minutes from January 8. Stacy seconded. The motion passed.



Treasurerís Report

The budget that will go in the Town Report was reviewed. Basketball expenses were missing, but Dawn dropped them off recently, so they should be included in the final report. Bridget motioned to approve the Treasurerís Report. Stephanie seconded. The motion passed.



Recreation Directorís Report

The Recreation Director was not at the meeting.



Action Item Review

The action items were reviewed and assigned.



Paint and Sip Recap

The paint and sip was a success. Discussion about having another and possible locations.




Bridget made a basketball calendar. The balls do not seem to be holding air; what should be done about this?Will there be basketball pictures this year?



Town Report

A report for the Town was created and submitted on Sunday evening, January 14.
